The 2013 Greenwich Town Competition to be held Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Dorothy Hamill Rink in Greenwich CT will begin with announcements and anthem at 8:45 am.  The rink will open at 7am. Due to the high number of entries we recommend competitors be at the rink at least 1 1/2 hours before their scheduled time. Practice ice time has been changed to 7:30 – 8:10 and is open to all Well-Balanced and Test Track event competitors.  Dorothy Hamill Rink will be open at 7am and all
skaters need to check in at the front window for the registration materials.  Make sure to bring two copies of Program Music on CD

The competition will begin with the Freestyle competitors at 9am.  The Basic Skills portion of the competition will follow.  A full competitors schedule will be posted a week before the competition.

Attention Skaters and Professionals:
The Greenwich Town Competition Application is due January
14th, 2013.  The application is available through the WHSC
web site (see link below) and the Town of Greenwich site.
Please note that the applications must be complete including
coaches signatures and payment or they will be returned.
All applications must be mailed to the Department of Parks
and Recreation, attention Town Competition.  No applications
will be accepted at the rink or Town Hall; they must be
postmarked by January 14th.

who was named to U.S. Figure Skating’s 2013 Scholastic Honors
Team Honorable Mention Roll. Brooke is a synchronized skater
with The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team. She is
currently in her third year on the Junior line and has been
a team  member for eight years.  In 2012, David Cruikshank,
a Windy Hill SC singles skater, was named to the  Scholastic
Honors Team.

Each year since the Scholastic Honors program’s creation in
1996, U.S. Figure Skating and the Program Development
committee have selected a Scholastic Honors Team that
recognizes high school-age U.S. Figure Skating members who
excel in figure skating, academics, and community
activities. Ten skaters are selected to the Team each year
and up to 10 additional applicants are named to the
“Honorable Mention Roll.”  More than 1,100 skaters have
applied for the scholarship since its inception, with 200
team members selected.

To be eligible for the Team, skaters must be U.S. Figure
Skating members entering the junior or senior year of high
school with a grade point average of 3.4 or higher and have
competed at a U.S. Figure Skating qualifying competition in
singles, pairs, ice dancing and/or synchronized skating at
the novice, junior or senior level during the past two
years.

The 2013 Scholastic Honors Team and Honorable Mention Roll
will be recognized in SKATING Magazine and in the 2013 U.S.
Figure Skating Championships Program.  This year’s team and
honorable mention roll are a very distinguished group of
athletes who have excelled in academics and in their
communities, as well as in skating.

The Town of Greenwich will be holding its annual competition at the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink on Sunday, February 24, 2013, for Snowplow Sam – Basic 8 Events, Free Skate 1 – 6 Events, Well Balanced Free Skate Levels, and Test Track Levels.  This competition is sanctioned by the US Figure Skating Association.

The form requires:
1. A private coaches sign off on the requested events;
2. Payment to the “Dorothy Hamill Skating Club” with skater’s name noted on check;
3. Complete and legible information, contact email and parent/guardian sign off; and
4. All applications must be post marked and mailed to the address specified; no applications will be accepted at the rink or Town Hall in person.

Dear Windy Hill Members:

We have received many requests to obtain ice for either a
Monday or a Wednesday session. Due to the cost of ice, the
Windy Hill Skating Club is not able to secure any additional
sessions for freestyle. However, we have worked closely
with the Dorothy Hamill Rink Director who was able to offer
a schedule of additional freestyle times on Mondays and
Wednesdays that will be operated by the Town of Greenwich.

WHSC members will not have exclusive use of the ice, but the
sessions will be run as freestyle ice. There are some
specific limitations regarding coaches and students, so
please read the attached flyer carefully.

Dear Windy Hill members:
Attached is the WHSC subscription ice and membership forms for 2012 – 2013 with the ice priced as follows for Fridays/Saturdays:
Full:  $39 for two hours with single payment of $1050/$973; two payments at $41.60 for two hours $562/$520. One hour: $22.25 for a single payment of $600/$555.
Subscription ice begins September 14, 2012 and run through March 16, 2013.  There is no ice on December 8 and March 2, 2013.
Walk ons are $28 for one hour and $50 for 2 hours paid up front at the start of the first session only.  The single payment subscription gives the best price and the 6.5% discount reflects an offset to the rise in ice costs for this year.
Please note there is a change to the Walk On ice pricing. In order to take advantage of the best pricing, the fee for two hours must be paid at the start of the first session, otherwise the prevailing hourly rate applies to add on another hour.  Parents, please note that no skater will be allowed on the ice without payment.  Do not drop off your child and pay at the end of the session.  Windy Hill SC monitors will not be required to manage individual accounts week to week.
I have been in discussions with Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink concerning addition weekday sessions that may be available on a subscription basis through the Town of Greenwich.  As information becomes available I will keep you informed.
